US-Taiwan defence deal: China sanctions Raytheon Technologies & Lockheed Martin

Due to their arms shipments to Taiwan, China has slapped fresh penalties on US defence contractors Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Wang Wenbin mentioned a newly passed Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law that took effect in 2021, escalating a dispute with Washington over security and Beijing's strategic aspirations. China retaliated when the US approved a $100 million deal between the two corporations to maintain Taiwan's missile defence systems on February 7. “China once again urges the US government and relevant parties to stop arms sales to Taiwan and sever military ties with Taiwan," Wang said.
