Uyghur repression: China faces the heat, UN flags forced labour; Pressure mounts

A report from the Int'l Labour Organisation, a specialised U.N. Agency, has slammed China. The U.N. report criticises China for 'widespread & systematic programme' of abuse in the Xinxiang region. There are about 12 million Uyghurs, mostly Muslim, living in China's Xinjiang region. The Uyghurs speak their own language and see themselves as culturally close to Central Asia. China has been orchestrating the migration of the ethnic majority to dilute the minority Uyghur population. Over the past few years, China has detained over a million Uyghurs against their will.
