Pak-Origin U.S. Lawmaker Maryam Khan Attacked After Eid Prayers in Connecticut | What We Know

A Pakistan-born American lawmaker, Maryam Khan, was attacked after offering Eid prayers in Connecticut, US on June 28. According to the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Maryam Khan was taking pictures with her family when a man approached her and made "vulgar and obscene remarks." He then "grabbed and hit her and threw her to the ground." Maryam Khan received minor injuries after being attacked. The accused has been identified as 30-year-old Andrey Desmond from New Britain, Connecticut, and was charged with unlawful restraint, assault, breach of peace, and interfering with the police.
