Filipino climate activists staged a protest outside Japan's embassy in Manila wearing Pikachu costumes. Activists from 350.org called on the Japanese govt to stop financing coal projects as Japan prepares to host the G-20 summit in Osaka this week. Protest leader Norly Mercado of grassroots climate-change group 350.org said Japan is the second largest funder of coal projects worldwide. She said, “Pikachu is a well-known image and symbol of Japan. What we want now is for Japan to also be a symbol, to be a leader in terms of climate change and how it solves the climate crisis.”
