As leaders of the West promised supply of modern tanks to Ukraine, Russia escalated its offensive with a barrage of missiles targeting key Ukrainian cities including capital Kyiv. The attacks came hours after the United States and Germany announced plans to supply the M1 Abrams tanks and the Leopard 2 tanks respectively. The Kremlin said that a decision by Western nations to send tanks to Ukraine meant that they were party to the conflict.
