Watch: 17-year-old girl overcomes blindness to become a pole vault champion
Charlotte Brown, wants to be defined by her athletic achievements, not her blindness. The 17-year-old who is legally blind won a bronze medal in pole vault Saturday at the Texas state high school track and field championships. But, how does she pole vault? She counts her steps and uses a beeper in the vault mat to determine when to plant the pole. She is heading to Purdue University on an academic scholarship this fall.
