Jake Bailey, a New Zealand student and senior monitor at Christchurch Boys' high school gave a prize giving speech which moved the audience to tears on Wednesday. Eighteen-year-old Bailey had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer the week before and had to give the address from a wheelchair as he was too weak to stand unaided.During the emotional ceremony other pupils in the audience were visibly moved to tears and certain parts of the speech became more poignant due to the circumstances. Pupils from the school gave a performance of the Haka Maori dance after the speech had ended.Local media reported that Bailey had undergone almost a week of intensive chemotherapy before the prize giving ceremony.
