A man in Ecuador legally changed his gender to female to win a custody battle of his two young daughters in court, a report said, Rene Salinas Ramos,47, will now be listed as a female on official documents in Ecuador, the New York Post reported. He still identifies as a male but the decision came as he wanted to attain the custody of his girls.

Laws in Ecuador prefer mothers over fathers while granting custody of children during a divorce, the report added. Owing to this Rene Salinas Ramos legally changed his gender.
“Being a father in this country, Ecuador, is punished and I'm only seen as a provider. What I have been looking for is to give the love and protection that a mother can give her children,” he said.
Rene Salinas Ramos also said that his daughter are living in an abusive environment and he has not met them in over five months due to their mother.

"The laws say that the one who has the right is the woman. As of this moment, I am female. Now I'm also a mom, that's how I consider myself," he said.
“I am very sure of my sexuality. What I have sought is that I want to be a mother, so that I can also give the love and protection of a mother,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian Federation of LGBTQI organizations released a statement denouncing his "outlandish" actions.
