Buffalo fire: Massive blaze engulfs apartment building on Delaware Ave, videos surface

A three-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building on Delaware Ave in north Buffalo in Saturday.

UPDATE: Authorities confirmed that four people were transported to the hospital following a three-alarm fire at an apartment building located at 2439 Delaware Avenue on Saturday. Among those taken to ECMC were an individual with a broken leg, a pregnant person, and two others experiencing respiratory issues. Multiple residents were assisted in evacuating the building, with 15 others evaluated on-site for various injuries.

In a statement, Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon praised the efforts of nearly 80 firefighters who responded to the incident.

“Their dedication and heroism exemplify the very best of public service,” he said. “I’m grateful that no firefighters sustained serious injuries while working under such dangerous conditions.”

The fire is currently under control. However, Delaware Avenue remains closed to traffic in both directions between Hertel Avenue and Tacoma Avenue.

ORIGINAL STORY: A three-alarm fire broke out at a three-story apartment building on Delaware Avenue in North Buffalo on Saturday. The blaze was reported around 2:30 p.m.

According to Alert Page, heavy smoke and flames were visible from the Charlie side of the building and the roof. One person was reportedly trapped on a third-floor balcony and was in the process of being rescued. However, authorities have not yet confirmed this.

Multiple crews are working to get the fire under control.

Reactions

Several witnesses and residents took to social media to report the blaze.

One person wrote, “You can smell it over on hertel and Elmwood too.”

Another added, “Fire on Delaware Ave in North Buffalo. Pray all people, animals, firemen and all other First Responders get out safely! Be safe.”
