A Republican lawmaker reunited with his two daughters, who were attending Camp Mystic, which was destroyed over the weekend due to flooding in central Texas. Rep. August Pfluger shared that his daughters were evacuated from Camp Mystic. The century-old camp was located along the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Pfluger expressed his condolences to all families who had lost someone in the floods. He also thanked first responders for their efforts.
According to Fox News, five young girls who were at Camp Mystic have now been confirmed dead. Twenty-seven campers were still missing 36 hours after the flood, Kerr County officials stated. About 750 attendees were present at the camp when the floodwater burst into the camp.

“Camille, Vivian and I are now reunited with Caroline and Juliana who were evacuated from Camp Mystic. The last day has brought unimaginable grief to many families and we mourn with them as well as holding out hope for survivors,” August Pfluger said.
“We want to thank the first responders who have come from far and wide to save lives. The TX Division of Emergency Management has been incredible and the White House, DHS, FEMA, DPS and local officials have all been responsive and helpful. Please join us today as we pray for miracles,” he added.
In a separate post, the republican lawmaker thanked the “countless heroes” who made sacrifices during the tragedy. “We pray for those who have lost loved ones. May God’s peace cover you and your family,” he added.
Texas floods: Death toll so far
At least 59 people, including 21 children, have died in Kerr County due to the floods. Officials stated that at least another eight deaths were recorded in nearby counties.
Central Texas was hit by floods after almost a foot of rainfall was recorded overnight. This led the Guadalupe River to rise rapidly, as per an Associated Press report. The river submerged parts of Camp Mystic as well, reaching 26 feet within 45 minutes.
Rescue teams are working to find the missing girls at Camp Mystic. Texas Governor Greg Abbott visited the site on Saturday. So far, almost 850 people have been rescued from the flood-affected areas.
