A bomb threat was reported outside the headquarters of Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA (TPUSA), in Phoenix, Arizona, on Wednesday. This comes days after the conservative activist was assassinated at a Utah university event.
Newsmax's John Huddy posted a video, from the scene, on social media, saying a suspicious bag was found outside the facility. A bomb robot, yellow tapes and dozens of law enforcement vehicles could be seen outside the TPUSA HQ. The facility will hold Charlie Kirk's funeral service on Sunday.
What happened at Turning Point USA HQ?
Phoenix Police posted on X, "This morning PPD was notified about a suspicious bag in the area of 49th St. and Beverly Rd. In the abundance of caution and for the safety of those in the area, this location has been cleared and the PPD Bomb Squad has responded. There is not a threat attached to the incident."
Tyler Robinson charges
The man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk appeared in a Utah courtroom Tuesday, facing a slate of charges that could carry the death penalty. Robinson, 22, was formally charged with first-degree aggravated murder in the Sept. 10 shooting that killed Kirk.
Prosecutors also brought additional counts, including felony discharge of a firearm causing injury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child. If not sentenced to death, Robinson could face 25 years to life in prison.
Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced earlier that he will pursue the death penalty, calling the decision “difficult but necessary given the evidence and circumstances.” Utah is among 23 states that still permit capital punishment.
Court documents reveal Robinson’s parents alerted authorities after recognizing him in surveillance footage. His mother identified him as the suspect, while his father said the rifle used in the attack appeared to be the same firearm he had gifted his son. Investigators later said Robinson’s DNA was found on the trigger of that rifle.
