He struggled in the following tours of South Africa and New Zealand, though, raising questions over whether he can transfer his prodigious limited-overs talent to the long game.

As for that short-format skill, there was little, if any, doubt left after his blistering world-record score of 264 off 173 balls versus Sri Lanka in November 2014, which included 33 fours and nine sixes.

Alongside breaking several records, it was also Rohit’s second double-hundred in ODI cricket, having scored 209 against Australia in November 2013.
