Taliban militants kill 17 civilian roadworkers and wound 16 others in an attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Taliban militants killed 17 civilian roadworkers and wounded 16 others in an attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the interior ministry said.

In a counter-attack by Afghan and foreign security forces in Zabul province, seven militants were killed and a dozen more were wounded, ministry spokesman Zemaray Bashary said.

"The enemies attacked civilian roadworkers in Zabul this morning. Seventeen civilian roadworkers were martyred and 16 others were injured," Bashary told AFP.
