While in Karachi, clashes between two ethnic groups continued for the third day on Monday, with the death toll rising to 38 following the killing of five persons by unidentified gunmen.

The bombing took place at a security checkpoint in the town of Mingora in the scenic Swat valley, which has been rocked by a violent campaign to impose harsh Islamic laws. “Ten people were killed and 50 others were injured in the suicide blast at the checkpost,” a security official told AFP. He added that all who died were civilians and a lone security official was among the wounded.

While in Karachi, clashes between two ethnic groups continued for the third day on Monday, with the death toll rising to 38 following the killing of five persons by unidentified gunmen.

Over 100 people have been injured in the violence that erupted on Saturday after members of one group resorted to indiscriminate firing in several parts of Karachi. An uneasy calm prevailed in the city after unidentified gunmen killed five persons in Orangi Town area.

Dozens of vehicles were torched in different areas while rioters continued to damage public and private property across the city.

Police have arrested 40 people in connection with the violent incidents.
