5.4 magnitude quake shakes southern Cyprus

Authorities in Cyprus say an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 has shaken the east Mediterranean island's southern coast.

Authorities in Cyprus say an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 has shaken the east Mediterranean island's southern coast.

No injuries or damage have been reported.

The Cyprus Geological Survey Department says the undersea quake occurred at 9:48pm (1848 GMT) about 45 miles (70 kilometers) southeast of the coastal town of Larnaca.

It said the quake occurred at a depth of 30 miles (50 kilometers) with people reporting some swaying in towns along the island's southern coastline.
