The 5.7-magnitude quake occurred at 7.07am (1307 GMT) some seven kilometers (four miles) from the town of Acayucan and about 470 kilometers (290 miles) east of the capital Mexico City.

No immediate injuries or damage was reported from the temblor, which struck at a depth of 132 kilometers (82 miles).

The region was the scene of devastating flooding last year that left dozens of people dead and thousands homeless.
