Adrift Indian ship repaired; crew safe
The crew of a crippled India-flagged 740-foot bulk cargo ship, APJ Suryavir, has repaired its engines and the vessel is on its way to Portland, Oregon, according to Coast Guard.

All 28 members of the Suryavir crew are safe, the Coast Guard told local media in Anchorage Alaska. A Coast Guard cutter and a private ship headed to the Suryavir about 540 miles southwest of Alaska's Adak Island have been called off.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Walter Shinn said the crew of Suryavir informed them of the repairs on Monday morning. But the Coast Guard will be in radio contact with the ship until it moors in Portland.
Shinn said no injuries were reported among the crew of 28, and the 740-foot bulk cargo ship never took on water. Waves were reported up to 30 feet while the ship was adrift.
The Suryavir ran into problems several days ago while en route from China to Oregon, but the crew didn't radio for help until late Sunday morning after the weather turned bad.
