Alstom wins euro1B contract for British power plant

Alstom SA has won a euro1 billion ($1.32 billion) contract to build what it said will be Britain's largest gas-fired power plant, the French heavy engineering firm said on Monday.

Alstom SA has won a euro1 billion ($1.32 billion) contract to build what it said will be Britain's largest gas-fired power plant, the French heavy engineering firm said on Monday. The 2,000 megawatt plant is to be built for RWE npower Plc at the German utility's exisitng oil-fired plant in Pembrokeshire, Wales, Alstom said in a statement.

The plant will include five of Alstom's GT26 heavy duty gas turbines, and will be able to supply the power needs for about 3 million homes, Alstom said.
