Police in Lower Austria province say the accident occurred around midnight on Sunday near the township of Heiligenkreuz but could not immediately provide details about the dead or what caused the collision.

Austrian media reported that the bus was carrying passengers from Kosovo and was en route to Germany. Police on Monday could only confirm that the bus had a German license plate.

The injured have been taken to hospitals in the area.
