Police in Pakistan say a remote-controlled bomb planted on a motorcycle killed a passer-by and wounded five others in a market in the country's southwest. Police officer Abdul Majid Dasti says the blast occurred on Sunday in the town of Sui in Baluchistan province. He says two of the wounded are in serious condition.
No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion, but it bore the hallmarks of past attacks by ethnic Baluch tribesman long engaged in a low-level insurgency. The insurgents seek greater provincial autonomy and more control over the area's natural resources.
The Baluchistan violence is just part of the militant threat facing the U.S.-allied government. Pakistan's northwest in particular is bedeviled by Taliban extremists.
