Bomb hits police headquarter

The Afghan government says a bomb has blown up outside the main gate of the police headquarters in the southern Afghan city of Lashkar Gah.

Helmand provincial government spokesman Daoud Ahmadi says there have been some deaths from the explosion but declines to give numbers. He says that a wall of the compound has also collapsed and that they are not sure whether anyone is trapped underneath.

He says it was a police vehicle that exploded, but it was unclear whether it had been driven into the gate by a suicide bomber or whether a bomb had been place inside a parked vehicle.
