A powerful bomb blast struck the Nigerian police headquarters in the capital Abuja on Thursday, the police and emergency services said, but the number of casualties was not immediately clear.

"The police force headquarters has been bombed, everywhere is bombed," deputy national police spokesman Yemi Ajayi told AFP.
