State media says at least 13 people were killed after a bus plunged off a highway in southwest China. Xinhua News Agency said on Monday, the long-distance sleeper bus was carrying 44 passengers when it drove off a highway in Guizhou province and crashed down a 260-foot (80-meter) slope. Xinhua cited the Guizhou safety administration as saying it was not immediately known how many people were injured in the crash, but that the bus was not overloaded.

The report said the bus was traveling from Guangzhou, capital of southern Guangdong province, to Yanhe, a rural county in Guizhou's northeast. The cause of the crash was not known, it said. Road accidents are common in China because of overloaded and unsafe vehicles, poor road conditions and bad driving habits.
