Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett has been crowned as the worst dressed celebrity of 2009 by a leading British newspaper. Second on the worst dressed list was Basic Instinct star Sharon Stone, for a sheer lace and leather outfit.

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett has been crowned as the worst dressed celebrity of 2009 by a leading British newspaper.

Blanchett has been panned for a particular one-shouldered crochet attire which has been regarded as "a student blanket turned into a dress", Daily Mail online reported.

Second on the worst dressed list was 'Basic Instinct' star Sharon Stone, for a sheer lace and leather outfit.

'Queen of pop' Madonna managed third position on the list, for head-to-toe Louis Vuitton dress, designed by Marc Jacobs, who the report rated as the most overrated designer of the past ten years.

While Mary-Kate Olsen limped in fourth in a kaftan and headband 'Girls Aloud' star Cheryl Cole comes fifth for a "weird, curved" David Koma dress and "awful" hair extensions.
