Channel 4 fined over phone-in competitions

Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom says it has levied a 1.5 million pound fine on Channel 4 for breaking broadcasting rules in two phone-in competitions.

Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom said on Thursday it has levied a 1.5 million pound fine on Channel 4 for breaking broadcasting rules in two phone-in competitions.

The broadcaster breached regulations with the You Say We Pay quiz on the Richard & Judy show and on a viewer competition on Deal or no Deal, the game show hosted by Noel Edmonds. The fine follows a string of cases involving viewer deception that has shaken the television industry this year.
