Actress Demi Moore's response to a post on a social networking site helped get an intervention from police to save an alleged suicidal woman.
A user named SandieGuy threatened to cut her arm on Twitter.com to which the actress posted a reply hoping that the woman was joking, the Sun online reported. Moore's reply generated a series of calls from her fans to the Police asking for an intervention.
The post read, "Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn't waste time."
Moore responded to the graphic message by saying, "Hope you are joking." The Ghost star later discovered that her reply had led many fans to call the San Jose Police Department for help to track down the apparently suicidal woman.
Authorities located the woman in question, who had not hurt herself, and was taken in for medical evaluation, a spokesperson for the police department said.
"Everyone, I was very torn about responding or retweeting that woman's post but felt uncomfortable just letting it go... Thanks everyone for reaching out to the San Jose PD. I am told they are aware and no need to call anymore," Moore later posted.
"I do not know this woman and if it is a joke it is not funny and nor is this an appropriate outlet for such a serious matter. Time for us to move on," the actress added.
