Pakistan's Election Commission on Monday issued the final list of five candidates for the October 6 presidential polls, including incumbent President Pervez Musharraf who is facing stiff resistance from the Opposition against his re-election bid.

Speaker of the National Assembly Amir Hussain, who had filed nomination as a covering candidate for President Musharraf, withdrew his papers before the deadline at 12 noon.

The other candidates for the presidential poll are Mohammedmian Soomro, Wajihuddin Ahmed, Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Faheem and Faryal Talpur.

Mohammedmian Soomro, Chairman of Senate and a covering candidate for Musharraf, did not withdraw his papers as legal experts say Musharraf is still facing a legal battle in his re-election bid.

Wajihuddin Ahmed, a former Supreme Court judge, has been fielded by the lawyers.

Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Faheem is the candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party while Faryal Talpur is the covering candidate for Faheem.
