The firing occured after Sharif's supporters tried to push their way across a bridge over the Indus River, trying to reach the capital Islamabad, where Sharif landed after seven year in exile. Police had blocked the bridge.

"Three protesters and two policemen are wounded," said Pakistani reporter Mushtaq Piracha at the scene.
