Germany calls for freeing of Myanmar political prisoners
German chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed Aung Sang Suu Kyi's release today and also called for the freeing of the more than 2,000 other political prisoners of Myanmar's military regime.

German chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed Aung Sang Suu Kyi's release on Saturday and also called for the freeing of the more than 2,000 other political prisoners of Myanmar's military regime.
"Aung San Suu Kyi is a symbolic figure of the global fight for human rights. Her pacificism and intransigence have made her a model," Merkel said in a statement that expressed her 'delight' at her release.
Merkel also 'called for the freeing of the more than 2,000 other political prisoners' in Myanmar, her statement said.
