Sokratis Giolias was shot more than a dozen times outside his Athens home on July 19. Police had already matched bullets from handguns used in the attack to the Greek militant group, which had previously used the weapons in the killing of an anti-terrorist police officer and a shooting attack outside a private television station.

Authorities said an Athens newspaper received a statement from the group on Tuesday, claiming Giolias' murder. Details of the statement were not available, but the newspaper said it contained threats against well-known Greek journalists and publishers.
