Lebanese security officials say a hand grenade has exploded near a mosque in the northern city of Tripoli, wounding three passers-by.
The officials say the grenade appears to have been thrown by a person near the Sunni Muslim Nasiri mosque in the Tabanneh neighborhood.
Tripoli has been the scene of repeated clashes in the past between Alawites from Jabal Mohsen and Sunni militants in the neighboring Tabbaneh sector. Tension has been high recently over the uprising in neighboring Syria against President Bashar Assad's regime, which is dominated by the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
The officials said troops cordoned off the area after Saturday's blast. They spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
