Indian worker abducted in Afghanistan

The abduction of Simon Paramanathan, an Indian working in the Herat Province of Afghanistan, has come to light. Simon was abducted in October.

Second Secretary (Political) at the Indian embassy in Kabul JP Singh, who confirmed the abduction, claimed that Simon was still alive.

"We are making all efforts and are in touch with all concerned ministries and officials in this regard. We hope that the matter will be solved amicably," said Singh.

The abductors have demanded $ 50,000 for his release. Simon's wife, Vasanthi has pleaded with the Indian government for help.

"We cannot give the money. I beg the Indian government to protect my husband", she said.

Simon who went to Afghanistan a year ago was working for an Italian company and was to visit his home for Pongal. He worked in Muscat before joining the present company in Afghanistan.

The deadline for his release ends on Friday.
