Steven Joseph Christopher, who is from Wisconsin, was arrested by the US Secret Service.

“Threats against the president-elect will be taken very seriously,” said US attorney Dunn Lampton.

Threatening to kill the US president-elect is an offence that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $ 250,000 fine.

“I have decided I will assassinate Barack Obama,” Christopher wrote in a posting on a website on January 11, according to the affidavit filed by the Secret Service.
