Richard Holbrooke says the "big tent meeting" in The Hague on Afghanistan's future is already a success based solely on the number of countries that agreed to attend.

Some 80 countries, ranging from the United States to its old enemy Iran, are sending high-ranking delegations to the one-day conference.

Holbrooke says Iran is a crucial player in what is a regional crisis with its epicenter in southern Afghanistan and western Pakistan.
