An Indian-origin woman, who went missing after leaving a friend's pre-wedding party, was found dead in her car which was submerged in a river in Durban.

Swastika Hansraj, 21, is believed to have drowned when her car was washed off a low bridge as she tried to cross it during a thunderstorm.

Worried friends and relatives scoured the area between her home and the venue of the party after her father Anand Hansraj raised the alarm when she failed to arrive home on Saturday night.

Workers spotted bonnet of the car and alerted the police, who said no foul play was suspected.
