A 5.3-magnitude earthquake jolted Taiwan on Wednesday, the central weather bureau said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The tremor struck at 9:41 am (0141 GMT) and was centred 21 kilometres (13 miles) southeast of Lidao in the southeastern county of Taitung, the bureau said.
It occurred at a depth of eight kilometres underground, it said.
Taiwan, which lies near the junction of two tectonic plates, is regularly shaken by earthquakes.
