A new scandal has erupted in Pakistan where one of the key investigators in the power scam which involves the name of the prime minister was found dead earlier this week in his hostel room with his department, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and police concluding that it was a suicide.

However, his colleagues and family members insist that the death was a murder. Employees of NAB have now gone on strike to protest what they say is a cover up by the government.

The timing could not have been more telling, say observers. A day after NAB told the Pakistan SC that it did not have enough evidence to proceed against PM Raja Pervez Ashraf in the Rental Power Case, Kamran Faisal was found dead in his room. Faisal, who was looking into alleged kickbacks by the premier in transactions involving rental power plants, was found hanging at a hostel room.

A medical board, which conducted Faisal’s autopsy, and the Islamabad police stated the officer’s death was a case of suicide. But Faisal’s family insisting that it was a murder.
