Balochistan's Taxation and Excise Minister Rustam Jamali, who was on a private visit here to meet a friend, was hit by four bullets and died instantly, police officials were quoted as saying by TV news channels.
At least three armed men were involved in the botched robbery in the Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi. Any guards did not accompany Jamali, a relative of former premier Zafarullah Khan Jamali, as he was on a private visit to the city, officials said.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the murder.
