The Paris air show opened on Monday at a time when the aviation industry is in free fall. The economic downturn is playing havoc with it.
French PM Francois Fillon inaugurated the show at Le Bourget, about 40 km from Paris, two weeks after the still-unexplained crash of an Air France Airbus 330 over the Atlantic killed all 228 people onboard.
Braving rain, aviation industry executives from across the world watched a dazzling display of jets flying in overcast conditions.
Over 2,000 exhibitors from 48 countries have assembled to showcase their wares.
