Patil condoles Gujarat bus accident

The accident, in which 44 people were killed, occurred in Gujarat's Vadodara district when the bus fell into the Narmada canal.

President Pratibha Patil on Thursday conveyed her condolences to the families of the 44 people, mainly schoolchildren, who were killed when their bus plunged into a canal in Gujarat.

"The president has conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families of the victims," Rashtrapati Bhavan officials accompanying Patil on her 12-day tour to Latin American countries said in Mexico City.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning in Gujarat's Vadodara district when the bus fell into the Narmada canal. Most of the children were between eight and 10 years and were going to appear for an examination.

Patil arrived in Mexico City from Brazil for the second leg of her visit to Latin American countries. She will be here till Saturday.
