An editor of two newspapers has been shot dead by armed men of a Terai group in Nepal's Parsa district for allegedly spying against them.
The Jwala Singh faction of Janatantri Terai Mukti Morcha has claimed the responsibility for killing Pushkar Shrestha on Sunday, according to sources in Federation of Nepalese Journalists.
Shrestha was the editor of New Highway and New Season weeklies. He died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Toofan Singh, area in-charge of the JTMM-J, has taken the responsibility of killing Shrestha.
A team of 15 international journalists led by Jesper Hoijverg of International Media Support, which is currently in Kathmandu to assess the situation of press freedom, said that Nepalese journalists are still facing threat to their security even after the successful people's movement of April 2006.
FNJ has recorded 677 incidents against journalists and freedom of press that include one murder and one abduction in the year 2007.
