Mark Thatcher told reporters Saturday that his mother was receiving good medical care but that doctors would likely keep her in the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital longer than originally planned.

Doctors said they planned to keep the 83-year-old in the hospital until at least Wednesday. Her son, however, said it would likely be longer.

Thatcher underwent surgery Friday to put a pin in her upper arm. She has suffered a number of health problems in recent years, including a series of minor strokes.

Thatcher was Britain's first female prime minister and served three terms from 1979 until 1990.
