The gunmen, who were on motorcycles, opened fire on people in Quetta’s busy Sariab Road, witnesses said. TV channels reported five persons were killed and two more were wounded.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The gunmen fled after the shooting, witnesses said.
The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors said they too were in a critical condition.
Police and paramilitary forces rushed to the site of the shooting. Security forces also launched a search for the attackers.
Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, has witnessed several violent incidents in recent months. The regional head of UNHCR, John Solecki, was kidnapped in the city earlier this month.
