US agency seeks probe into leaks

A US intelligence agency has sought a criminal probe into the leak of highly classified information about secret surveillance programmes run by the NSA, a spokesman for the spy chief’s office said.

A US intelligence agency has sought a criminal probe into the leak of highly classified information about secret surveillance programmes run by the NSA, a spokesman for the spy chief’s office said.

National Intelligence director James Clapper launched an aggressive defence of a secret data collection programme. Clapper said the surveillance activities reported in the Washington Post and The Guardian were lawful and conducted under authorities approved by Congress.
