The woman died on Monday after four days of treatment at the Khanh Hoa provincial hospital. She was confirmed to have been infected with the H1N1 virus last on Friday, said doctor Le Tan Phung.

"The woman's nine-year-old son is also under treatment for H1N1 but he is in a stable condition," he said.
"She did not return from any contaminated areas," the doctor told AFP.

According to the latest online report by Vietnam's Ministry of Health, the communist country recorded another 35 cases positive cases on Monday.

Nearly 1,000 people have been reported infected with the virus and about 500 of those are receiving hospital treatment, according to the health ministry.

Vietnam reported its first H1N1 infection in late May. Several schools in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have suspended summer courses due to infection among teachers and students.

Health and education officials have urged people to be on high alert with the new school year due to start in two weeks.
