The 1995 find on the border with Guatemala could indicate that the region could be where the evolution of this species and other types of flora and fauna began, the researchers at Mexico City's National Autonomous University of Mexico said on Monday.

Besides the lobster fossil, petrified remains of fish, insects and plants were uncovered in the Ocozocuautla community.

The scientists said that the remains were so well preserved that in some cases the sex could be determined.
