Till date, Aamir Khan has had a strong and successful association with Christmas (December 25), as a number of his big films — including Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009), Dhoom: 3 (2013) and PK (2014) — have done well at the box office on the much-in-demand weekend. So, it didn’t come as a surprise when, last year, the actor’s upcoming film was also announced as the next big Christmas release.
But now, in the latest turn of events, we have come to know that Aamir might give his Christmas date a miss. He is “seriously contemplating preponing” his new film, and plans to release it on the Independence Day (August 15) weekend, since the film is high on patriotism.
“In all likelihood, Aamir is going to move the film’s release date to the August 15 weekend. Since the movie is almost ready, doing so shouldn’t be an issue. He feels that since the film strongly showcases love for the nation, it would be perfect to bring the movie out on Independence Day,” says an insider. Although no official announcement has been made yet, Aamir is believed to have already put “things in motion” as far as preponing the film is concerned.
We couldn’t reach Aamir for a comment, but sources say that the actor, while talking in a yet-to-be-aired TV interview, has said that “it is a patriotic film, and [talks] about the empowerment of the daughters of India, where I play the role of a father to four daughters (sic)”.
Furthermore, in the same interview, Aamir has said that his “character carries a dream of winning a gold medal for India, which his daughters fulfil for him (sic)”. He added, “It is a very patriotic and emotional story. So, I believe that the best day to release this film would be August 15.”
