Katrina Kaif is no newcomer, and is someone who is well-versed with the norms of the industry. In fact, after being around for over a decade, she has seen several ups and downs, and today, has no qualms in accepting the mistakes she has committed. However, the actor is content, and says that it has been an “incredible” journey.
“I have grown up in this industry. I’ve been here since my teenage years. This journey has taught me so much. I did my first film (Boom; 2003) here, before I turned 18. From then to now, it has been an intense, interesting and incredible journey,” says Katrina.

In her 13-year-long career, the actor has seen several changes in the industry. One aspect that she is particularly happy about is the quality of scripts that are being offered to actors today. “The quality of writing is improving. The quality of the characters that are being offered to women is also improving,” she says, adding that her “mindset is also different now”. “There have been roles and films, which have turned out to be wonderful and garnered immense praise. But when they were offered to me, I didn’t have the foresight to see their beauty and potential. In fact, sometimes, I have questioned myself, ‘That was such an incredible role. What were you thinking?’” asks Katrina.
However, the actor is happy that she is finally past that stage, and feels that her “horizons are wider now”. “I have a little more experience, and I’m more comfortable in my skin as a performer. I enjoy my work and the whole process of acting a lot more than before. I find it a lot more fulfilling at the moment,” she says.
On the other hand, several Bollywood actors are being roped in for international projects these days. Ask Katrina if she fancies working in the West, and she says, “If you are talking about Hollywood, then that’s a very different industry to work in. It’s a different ball game altogether. I don’t have an opinion on it at the moment, because I don’t have any offer in front of me that is exciting and I’m considering. But, if I get a wonderful script, which I like, I would have no reservations [in taking it up]. There is a huge comfort level in acting in your first language. It’s definitely an interesting and exciting thought.”
