Arun Pandey is a cricketer-turned-businessman who realised early in his career that his slow spins couldn’t take him very far in the money chase. He soon switched to brand selling and joined T-Series. Now he is handling MS Dhoni’s endorsements.
But, what brought this Varanasi man closer to Dhoni?
Pandey used to play Ranji Trophy tournaments with Team India captain.
Around this time he became close to him and gradually started seeing the rising cricketing star as his business prospect.
Today he is Dhoni’s friend, confidante, manager and business partner.
In fact, 2007 was lucky for him as it brought him the licence to negotiate endorsement deals on his behalf.
Pandey owns Rhiti Sports Management, a sports-management firm he started in 2007 and named after his niece.
Besides Dhoni, Rhiti manages Saina Nehwal, the world number two badminton player, and cricketers Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh.
Rhiti Sports also owns the marketing rights for the Chennai Super Kings team in the T20 League, for which Dhoni, Raina and Jadeja play.
What’s his success mantra?
Media reports say Pandey is a vegetarian and a non-smoker. He abstains from alcohol and party circuits. He works very hard and won’t mind going out and meeting people for business even at late hours. But, is that all?
