01:45 hrs IST: That is all we have from this long eliminator. Join us for the second qualifier between KKR and MI on May 19.
01:43 hrs IST: Nathan Coulter-Nile, Man of the Match: Intensity starts in the first over, with Umesh making Warner play and miss. When it was raining, we were quietly confident because 12.50 am was the cut off time. But it rained and rained and we were itchy.
01:40 hrs IST: Gautam Gambhir: A lot of credit to the bowlers. They set the game up for us. We should have been more sensible with the batting, though. But the bowlers restricting the Sunrisers batting to 128 was brilliant. There has been times when we’ve lacked intensity. And every run we stop on the field is one less to score and all 11 players were up for that. They knew that last time Sunrisers beat us in this Eliminator and they got it back for us.
01:34 hrs IST: David Warner: We were 30 runs short. It was quite a tough wicket to bat on. The ball was holding up a bit. It’s been quite a disappointing wicket all season. The way we batted wasn’t good enough and six over games can be niggly. We had to come out with positive intent, got three wickets, but we knew they would come hard and it happened.
01:30 hrs IST: Ishank Jaggi turns Bipul Sharma to square leg and they take the single. KKR have won by seven wickets courtesy DLS method and they will face Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2. The winner of that match will play Rising Pune Supergiant in the final.
01:26 hrs IST: Only two runs needed for win. KKR will be absolutely delighted. SRH, sadly, will not be able to defend their title.
01:19 hrs IST: A four and a six off Siddarth Kaul and KKR are closing in on a victory. Well deserved though.
01:14 hrs IST: Gambhir is playing brilliantly. Rashid Khan bowls a couple of wides to get the advantage back to KKR.
01:09 hrs IST: After a couple of good balls, Gambhir gets a top edge that goes to fine leg for a six. Big hit for KKR.
01:06 hrs IST: WICKET! Jordan strikes first ball after bowling a wide. Robin Uthappa pulls a short ball straight to deep mid wicket.
01:04 hrs IST: Gautam Gambhir strikes a vital boundary. KKR need 37 off 30.
01:02 hrs IST: WICKET! Yusuf Pathan is run-out first ball. Bhuveshwar Kumar is super quick and he runs him out at the striker’s end. Game on!
01:00 hrs IST: WICKET! Lynn looks to dig out a full ball but gets an outside edge that is snapped up by Naman Ojha on the second attempt. Huge wicket
00:57 hrs IST: KABOOM! Chris Lynn gets off the mark in style. He slaps a short and wide ball over cover for a flat six.
00:55 hrs IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open the bowling. He is vital for SRH in this situation.
00:53 hrs IST: Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa are opening the batting for KKR. No Sunil Narine. Seems sensible.
00:49 hrs IST: This gives KKR a massive advantage. Which bowler will bowl those two overs for SRH? Will it be Bhuvneshwar or Rashid Khan?
00:42 hrs IST: Confirmed. KKR’s chase has been reduced to six overs and the target is now adjusted to 48.
00:41 hrs IST: It looks in all certainty that we could have a five-over shoot-out. Remember, if that is the case, target for KKR will be 41. Might not need a super over.
00:34 hrs IST: No drizzle at the moment. Outfield is looking in great shape. We might have a restart soon.
00:24 hrs IST: Tom Moody, Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, has a quick inspection at the pitch and he is concerned about some damp patches on the wicket. However, the super soppers are out in full operation. This looks good for Kolkata Knight Riders.
00:17 hrs IST: It will take the ground staff 15-20 minutes to get everything ready. Looks like we might have an 8-9 over shoot-out. Inspection is scheduled at 12:35 AM.
00:12 hrs IST: Covers are coming off now. There is hectic activity by the ground staff. Looks like the next resumption could be on our way soon.
00:08 hrs IST: The problem with the rain currently in Bangalore is that it is a persistent drizzle. However, a couple of kilometers away from the stadium, there is no rain! That is Bangalore weather for you.
00:01 hrs IST: So now the next deadline for Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fans are 12:58 hrs IST. That is the time when it will be decided whether there will be a five-over game. If a five-over game is possible, then the target for KKR will be 41. If that does not happen, then 1:20 AM is the final deadline for a super over.
11:53 hrs IST: We will start losing overs from this time. Every four minutes, we will lose an over. If the rain does not stop by 12:58 hrs IST, then we could see a no-result.
11:50 hrs IST: Oh boy, Bangalore and rains. It is like Tom and Jerry. Back and forth. Once again the rain has picked up.
11:38 hrs IST: The groundsmen are back on the field and the mopping up operations begin. One thing is certain, it will be a curtailed match for sure.
11:34 hrs IST: It has reduced to a drizzle now but it is still raining. It has almost stopped. According to some reports, David Warner and VVS Laxman were not too happy with the state of the surface
11:29 hrs IST: Let us refresh the scenarios again. With rain falling and not stopping now, a 11:58 hrs IST resumption for a full 20 overs game looks unlikely. In this case, overs will be reduced. The cut-off time for a five-over game is 12:58 hrs IST
11:20 hrs IST: The rain continues to get heavier. The groundsman have decided to take shelter and wait. Now, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s hopes rise.
11:14 hrs IST: Back to square one. It has again started to pour in Bangalore. Looks like we might have a reduction in overs now as a resumption at 11:58 hrs IST looks improbable now.
11:08 hrs IST: Yikes, the drizzle is back on. It looks like the start time might be pushed back. Covers back on.
11:03 hrs IST: The match will begin at 11:25 hrs IST. No overs lost. Huge news for Kolkata Knight Riders fans.
10:57 hrs IST: Umpires are out on the field and they are inspecting the outfield. An announcement on the start time could be made soon.
10:52 hrs IST: Very faint drizzle at the moment. It might not be too long before the rain stops and play resumes. So, KKR fans might rejoice soon, but not too much.
10:46 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders will be heaving a huge sigh of relief now looking at the lowering intensity of the rain. KKR will be hoping that the rain stops and that they chase the total without too many hassles.
10:41 hrs IST: With the Chinnaswamy stadium getting a total overhaul on the drainage, it just needs the rain to stop. Following that, the outfield will be ready within 15-20 minutes and play will resume.
10:37 hrs IST: If the match starts at 11:49 hrs IST, there will be no reduction in the overs. However, we will lose an over every four minutes after 11:50 PM IST. In case the rain stops and play is ready before 1:20 am, then a super over will decide the contest.
10:25 hrs IST: Revised cut-off timings -
For full 20-over chase: 11:50 pm IST
For 5-over chase: 00:58 pm IST
For Super Over: 1:20 am
10:02 hrs IST: For all asking about a reserve day in the play-offs, there is no reserve day for the Eliminator and qualifiers. The final will have a reserve day.
9:58 hrs IST: The rain continues to pelt down in Bangalore. Nothing official yet, but there are reports emerging that for a five-over game to start, the cut-off time is 12:26 am. For that to happen, the rain must stop by 11:00 PM.
9:53 hrs IST: While we wait for the rain to subside in Bangalore, over in Dublin, a tight contest is developing between New Zealand and Bangladesh. Mustafizur Rahman is turning it on with some good bowling. Live updates here.
9:51 hrs IST: Live visuals do not show a pretty picture. It is absolutely lashing down at the Chinnaswamy. This will test the ground drainage system. This will be tragedy for KKR if the match does not resume.
9:47 hrs IST: It has started to pour in Bangalore now. The situation is not looking good for Kolkata Knight Riders. Remember, for them to qualify, this match must not end in a no-result.
9:42 hrs IST: Here are the scenarios. If the rain does not stop and the match is washed out, then Sunrisers Hyderabad will qualify. That seems to be their only chance. If the match resumes, then this total might not be enough for KKR’s batting strength.
9:39 hrs IST: The innings has ended on 128/7 with Naman Ojha getting dismissed. However, the covers are on the field. There is a strong wind blowing. One hopes that the rain subsides quickly.

9:13 hrs IST: WICKET! Yuvraj miscues the pull shot and it is a simple catch to Piyush Chawla as he departs for 9. SRH 99/4 in 15.3 overs.
9:09 hrs IST: After 15 overs, SRH are 98/3. Can Yuvraj do a Dhoni and get the team past 160, which will be great on this wicket?
9:07 hrs IST: Yuvraj is looking in great touch as he blasts Chawla down the ground for another boundary. He is looking in fine touch on his comeback.
9:04 hrs IST: Vijay Shankar thwacks a full, flighted ball to deep mid wicket for a boundary. He is also in good form for SRH.
9:01 hrs IST: Yuvraj gets off the mark in style by drilling Chawla to the deep extra cover fence. He holds the key now if SRH are to get anywhere between 150-160.
08:59 hrs IST: WICKET! Oh dear, SRH in trouble now. Piyush Chawla gets the ball to skid on and Warner misses the pull as the middle stump is flattened. SRH 75/3 in 12.2 overs.
08:56 hrs IST: WICKET! Poor shot! Williamson toe-ends the drive to cover and departs for 24. Nathan Coulter-Nile gets the wicket.
8:51 hrs IST: WHAM! That has been mauled. Short ball from Narine and Warner pulls it into the second tier of the Chinnaswamy stadium. That was 92 meters the distance.
8:45 hrs IST: Brilliant batting from Williamson. Coulter-Nile misses his length slightly and the Kiwi batsman flicks it to deep mid wicket for a boundary. Next ball, he pulls a short ball into the stands for a six.
8:42 hrs IST: Nine runs in Chawla’s first over but SRH need plenty of these overs if they have to pose a good total on this deck. The next 11 overs are crucial.
8:37 hrs IST: BAM! Poor ball from Piyush Chawla as he drops this legspinner short. Warner rocks back and hammers the pull into the stands at deep mid wicket. In the process, he becomes the first overseas player to go past 4000 runs in IPL. Take a bow, Warner.
8:36 hrs IST: A probing first over from Coulter-Nile. Only two runs and SRH’s run-rate has dipped to under five.
8:32 hrs IST: Nathan Coulter-Nile is into the attack. SRH are 37/1 in seven overs. At this rate, Warner has to step up.

7:16 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, have suffered a dip in momentum at the wrong time. Having won seven out of their first nine games, they have lost four out of the last five and are in the eliminator, rather than in the top two. A loss for either team puts them out of the competition.

5:41 pm IST: Hosts Karnataka State Cricket Association, are optimistic of handling the wet conditions. “Even if it rains heavily, we have the drainage system to ready the ground quickly,” a KSCA official said. The Chinnaswamy Stadium has had a comprehensive makeover of its outfield and drainage at the start of the year. The KSCA has installed a subsurface aeration system that draws out water even as it begins to rain, and a sand-base outfield. It is aimed at starting play within minutes after rain stops.

Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, were more or less assured of a playoff spot but the Gautam Gambhir-led outfit struggled towards the end as they succumbed to four losses in their last five outings in the league stage. However, the two-time champions would want to come out with their best when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator.
The winner of the SRKH vs KKR match will progress to Qualifier 2, also to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, where Qualifier 1 losers and two-time champions Mumbai Indians await them.
